MARCH 19, 2018 - Mary Wakefield, PhD, RN, FAAN, visiting distinguished professor in the practice of health care at the School of Nursing & Health Studies, delivered the 2018 Values Based Lecture, which was planned by the school’s Committee on Mission and Values.
The March 13 lecture, "The Affordable Care Act: Impact on Health Equity, Communities, and Workforce," covered three programmatic success stories related to the ACA, including funding for community health centers, the National Health Service Corps, and home visiting services. Wakefield addressed about 200 attendees.
Wakefield served as administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration and acting deputy administrator of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Additionally, she is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine.
