NOVEMBER 13, 2015 – In September, Patricia Cloonan, PhD, RN, interim dean of the School of Nursing & Health Studies, issued a challenge to the school’s faculty and staff – generate proposals outlining ideas that help advance the NHS Strategic Plan.
This week, Cloonan announced the awardees for the Dean’s Challenge 2015. The two proposals, selected by a committee of faculty and staff, which received funding are:
Project: “Enhancing NHS-wide Community-Based Participatory Research, Community-Based Learning, and Community Service by Strengthening the Center for Health Equity – Research, Implementation, and Teaching (CHERITH)”
NHS participants: Carol Taylor, PhD, MSN, RN, professor of nursing; Rosemary Sokas, MD, MOH, chair and professor of human science; Jennifer Huang Bouey, PhD, MBBS, MPH, associate professor of international health and the Susan H. Mayer Professor in Health Equity; Laura Anderko, PhD, RN, professor of health systems administration and the Robert and Kathleen Scanlon Chair in Values Based Health Care; and Margot Keale (NHS’16), health care management & policy major.

NHS participants: Edilma L. Yearwood, PhD, RN, PMHCNS-BC, FAAN (co-facilitator), interim chair and associate professor of nursing; Ella T. Heitzler, PhD, WHNP, FNP, RNC-OB (co-facilitator), assistant professor of nursing; Brian Floyd, MS (co-facilitator), assistant dean of student academic affairs; and Christopher King, PhD, MHSc, FACHE, assistant professor and director of the Master of Science in Health Systems Administration Program.
“The Mission, Vision, and Values and six core goals of our Strategic Plan provide a roadmap for the future of this school,” says Cloonan. “I am very grateful to our community for developing strong proposals that advance our plan in meaningful ways.”
