Georgetown Faculty Members Become Fellows of the American College of Nurse-Midwives
June 6, 2019 – Three faculty members at the School of Nursing & Health Studies have become fellows of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
Karen Trister Grace, PhD, CNM, FACNM; Ebony Marcelle (NHS’05), MS, CNM, FACNM; and Kelly C. Walker, DNP, CNM, FACNM, were all inducted late last month.
“The fellowship in the American College of Nurse-Midwives . . . is an honor bestowed upon those midwives whose demonstrated leadership within ACNM, clinical excellence, outstanding scholarship, and professional achievement have merited special recognition both within and outside of the midwifery profession,” the organization says.
‘Defining Force’
The three are faculty in the school’s Nurse-Midwifery/Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program, and Walker also directs the core curriculum of Georgetown’s online APRN programs.
“I am honored to be inducted as a fellow . . . and join those who contribute greatly to the promotion of midwifery,” Walker says. “I am committed to improving health outcomes for women, children, and families, especially those impacted by barriers to care.”
Marcelle adds that “fellowship is a huge honor from our professional organization, but what made it more meaningful was all the support from fellow midwives receiving this acknowledgment.”
Grace also notes she is honored by the election. “Midwifery has been a driving and defining force in my life and my career, and I hope to continue to serve the profession as well as it has served me,” she says.
‘Steadfast Contributions’
Patricia Cloonan, PhD, RN, the school’s dean, congratulated the three for this impressive accomplishment.
“Fellowship is a meaningful way to recognize the commitment of our faculty members to a profession that they love and to the individuals, families, and communities that they serve,” she says. “We are so grateful to each for their steadfast contributions.”
