NHS
Academic Council
The
Academic Council of the School of Nursing & Health
Studies serves as the liaison between students, administration,
and faculty. It is composed of
elected representatives from each of the undergraduate
classes. The Council represents the students on academic
matters and
provides membership on some School of Nursing & Health
Studies committees. Student participation in the student
associations as well as on the Academic Council is
encouraged so that students can provide valuable input
to the faculty
and administration. Participation in University and
School of Nursing & Health Studies governance helps
to prepare you for participation in the profession
and for assuming
leadership roles.
Students
also serve on certain University and Medical Center committees.
Students interested
in serving on
School of
Nursing & Health
Studies, Medical Center, or university committees
should notify the School of Nursing & Health
Studies Academic Council chairperson as soon as possible
at the beginning
of the fall semester.
NHS
Ambassadors
In collaboration
with the Offices of Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions,
NHS assists in the recruitment and yield efforts interested
students. All current students interested in helping
to coordinate programs for applicants to any of NHS’ programs
should contact Admissions.
Examples of previous activities are:
- Host overnight guests
- Accompany prospective students to classes
- Attend admitted student (GAAP) luncheons
- Provide tours of St. Mary’s
- Call to congratulate admitted students

Chapter of the National Student Nurses' Association
The
Georgetown University School of Nursing & Health
Studies chapter of the Student
Nurses' Association assumes responsibility for contributing
to nursing education in order
to provide for the highest
quality health care. Its purpose is to provide programs
representative of fundamental and
current professional interests
and concerns, and to aid in the development of the whole
person, his/her professional
role, and responsibility for
the health care of people in all walks of life. All nursing
students are eligible to join.
Meetings and activities are
held throughout the school year.
Graduate
Student Organization
The
Graduate Student Organization (GSO) exists
to provide a forum where graduate students can address
the issues that concern them. In addition, the GSO provides
for student travel to academic conferences, organizes social
events, and provides TA/RA training and professional development
workshops. All graduate students are members of the GSO.
If you have an issue that you would like addressed, or
if you are interested in becoming involved, please contact
one of the GSO Officers or your department representative
at The
Graduate Student Organization.
Healthcare Executives of Georgetown University (HEGU)
HEGU is an organization designed to facilitate the development
of personal and professional skills necessary for effective
leadership in the field of healthcare. Members are provided
with opportunities to network with professionals from local,
regional, and national institutions. Ongoing activities include
guest speakers, seminars, and volunteering projects, which
will not only enhance your professional growth, but will
serve to strengthen valuable bonds with colleagues at Georgetown.
All students at Georgetown University are welcome to join.
