About the School of Nursing

Georgetown University School of Nursing is a values-based organization that educates the health workforce and advances practice, research, and scholarship, with a strong focus on reducing health disparities and promoting health equity. The school houses academic degree programs at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels.

Our History

1903Founding year as the Georgetown University Hospital Training School for Nurses
1906First graduating class of the three-year diploma program
1972Debuts the first nurse-midwifery program in D.C., one of only 10 in the U.S.
2000Renamed the School of Nursing & Health Studies to reflect the addition of new health-related academic programs
2011Launched Georgetown’s first-ever online degree-granting program
2022Re-envisioned as the School of Nursing to provide space for growth and foster interdisciplinary and cross-school collaboration
