Why did you want to come to Georgetown?
I knew early on in my life that I wanted to attend a university in
a large city. Although I had visited the majority of the
schools I applied to before I mailed in my applications, I had
not done so with Georgetown. During my college application
process, I applied to Georgetown on a whim, not considering it
one of my top three choices. After my early acceptance, I finally
decided to visit the campus during GAAP weekend, and promptly fell
in love with Georgetown. The fact that Georgetown is located
within a large city, but still has the quaint feeling of a small
campus, is great! In my mind, this gave me the best of both
worlds: the intimate feeling of a small town that I grew up with
in Anchorage, Alaska, along with the opportunities and possibilities
of a large city.
What aspects of NHS do you like the most?
NHS is a very unique school within Georgetown. The fact that
it is the smallest college among the four Georgetown colleges gives
it the intimate characteristic that I have found especially comforting. There
are few schools where you can be on a first name basis with your
assistant deans. Over the years, St. Mary’s has become
like my second home. (I spend so much time here that it almost
could be!) The ability to have some of the same professors
for multiple semesters allows professors to get to know students
on an individual basis rather than just as another body in their
large lecture classroom. This also makes professors especially
approachable for students who need to approach them for office hours
or other reasons.
