Describe your academic experience.
I knew coming in it was going to be hard. Georgetown and pre-med…not
exactly my idea of academic leniency. From the get-go, it was a challenge,
not only to manage the material, but also to see how I could effectively
engage myself in each course, by providing thought-provoking and
unique perspectives on course material. It wasn’t simply a
matter of knowing information for a test and then not needing it
anymore; this was now the time that everything I learn is going to
be essential for success. Now is the time when I am learning, as
it seems, everything and more! At times, it is challenging to meet
that
constant demand with consistent effort and enthusiasm. However, professors
are very kind and very understanding of the students needs, and want
them to succeed. They are at the same time your mentor and your friend.
Resources are endless. Each time I find myself at another crossroads
or supposed dead end, I can always count on Georgetown to offer me
assistance.
What aspects of NHS do you like the most?
The food! No joke, with the number of activities hosted by NHS, there
is always delicious food. Most important to me is the size of the
school. In the hustle and bustle of our nation’s capital
and on a campus that serves 6,000 undergraduates, it can be difficult
at times to define support and have a sense of home and family.
NHS provides that for me, and so much more. It allows me to be
who I am among a student body of highly motivated, outstanding
individuals, as well as a member of a smaller community that I
know is always there. Deans, professors, other faculty and fellow
students are sincerely interested in my success; they aren't
only my superiors and peers, they are my friends and confidantes.
How do you balance your time between social life, academics,
and other activities?
To be honest, it’s all about prioritizing and time management.
As a varsity athlete and a pre-med student, there is little time
to allow myself to fall behind. However, one thing that I absolutely
find myself unable to function without is order. Also, knowing when
enough is too much and how to delegate responsibility among all other
tasks you may come across. Know your limits, but know that your opportunities
are endless. Never settle for mediocrity, but don’t seek unrealistic
goals. Work hard, and have fun. College really is a once in a lifetime
opportunity, so look at each day with that mentality.
