Why did you want to come to Georgetown?
There are many factors that made Georgetown the school for me.
For one, Georgetown is regarded around the world as one of the
most prestigious
Universities and if there is one thing that Georgetown is known
for, it is the academics. This was important in my college decision
as I was looking for a place that would challenge me intellectually.
Our Nation’s Capital, is jam-packed with so much
history, endless places to visit, and countless things to do. Having
the city at my disposal while going to school on a smaller campus,
offered me the best of both worlds: the feeling that I belong somewhere
along with the opportunities and possibilities of a large city.
Furthermore, I am also a huge basketball fan. The
men’s
basketball team at Georgetown, previously NCAA champions, is once
again headed
to the
top with the best players that we have seen in years. Also, NHS
at Georgetown has offered me the unique
opportunity of receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in my field
of interest. The unique combination of classes and its location
in the heart of Washington, D.C. will surely prepare me for any
career
in the health care delivery system and beyond.
What aspects of NHS do you like the most?
I like the size of the school. We have a little over a hundred
students in each graduating class. This allows for a great student-faculty
ratios
in classrooms so we in turn, get more attention and I think,
create a better dynamic. You can actually learn everyone’s
name! The faculty and students are all very nice and help create
a nice and
warming environment for everyone. NHS classrooms and professor
offices are all located in one building, St. Mary’s Hall.
This makes it easy to meet with faculty and staff who are always
willing to
help whether I have a scheduled appointment or just want to stop
in for a quick question or to say hi. NHS has also gotten me
very involved around campus and has introduced me to job options,
future
education, and a network of people willing to help me achieve
my aspirations. I have met so many people in the NHS and they
have
all helped shape Georgetown University into the right place for
me.
How are you involved on campus?
I am involved in several organizations. Georgetown Emergency
Response Medical Service, GERMS, is a student-run, all-volunteer
ambulance
service in which I participate. We provide year round, 24/7 medical
services to Georgetown and the surrounding community. I also
am a NHS Academic Council member, which serves as the liaison
between
students, administration, and faculty. I am a member of the New
Students
Orientation (NSO) team as an Orientation Advisor. This group
serves to welcome new students to Georgetown. I serve as a representative
on the Honor Council and work with NHS as an Admissions Ambassador
in coordinating programs for high school students applying to
Georgetown.
I also am a member of the Cuban-American Student Association
and play on the intramural flag football team.
