Dennis Mendoza

Program: Nurse Anesthesia
Undergraduate School: University of Virginia
Hometown: Virginia Beach, VA

What was your work experience prior to attending Georgetown?
I previously was working in a medical/surgical intensive care unit at the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA

How has the faculty contributed to your overall experience?
The faculty is very supportive and they make themselves readily available to the students in the program via office hours, email, and telephone.  They have an open door policy and are always willing to lend their free time to clarify questions from lecture or if you need extra hands-on experience in the GUS lab (GUS is Georgetown’s patient simulator).

Why did you come to Georgetown? What did Georgetown have to offer that no other school offered?
I decided to come to Georgetown because of its strong academic reputation and top-10 ranking in nurse anesthesia. Since the program’s inception, their graduates have had a 100% pass rate on the certification exam which is rather impressive.

What is your favorite part about your program?
My favorite part of the program thus far has been studying the cadavers in our gross anatomy lab.  Reading text books and looking at pictures are one thing, but to see and feel the actual muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and organs up close give me a much better appreciation of the human body.

What has been your most valuable experience here at Georgetown?
The most valuable experience I’ve had here at Georgetown has been the camaraderie from my fellow classmates.  This program is very demanding and intense.  We are always there to support each other when the stresses of studying become overwhelming.
