Current Program: MS in Health Systems Administration Previous Degrees: BS in Psychology - University of Georgia
MS in Community Counseling - Georgia State University Hometown: Atlanta, Georgia
What were you doing prior to your admission in Georgetown?
Prior to coming to Georgetown, I worked as a mental
health clinician in a variety of settings including disability
insurance and both public and private psychiatric hospitals. My
psychiatric work ranged in scope from treating sexually abused
children and homeless drug addicts to crisis stabilization of
suicidal and homicidal patients.
What did Georgetown have to offer that no other school offered?
When I was searching for a program to meet my professional and educational
goals, Georgetown ranked as one of my top three choices. During
my search, I found the health care environment in the DC area to
be a very attractive place to continue my education. I was
especially interested in studying in an area where I could be exposed
to a multitude of health care systems while simultaneously getting
exposure to health care policy making. I initially targeted Georgetown
due to its reputation, but what sold me on the MHSA at Georgetown
were both the executive mentor program and the quality of the faculty.
Not only do we get to study real world examples,
we also get to meet and interact with health care policy makers,
executives, authors, and other professionals that are tasked with
managing and improving health care today and in the future. This
exposure also provides the networking necessary to explore and
plan my personal career aspirations.
How has the faculty contributed to your overall experience?
The faculty of the department is approachable, accessible, and very
supportive. They are willing to meet with you to brainstorm
about topics of interest in health care in general or to discuss
anything related to the curriculum. Further, the faculty
not only invests in your present academic career by presenting
a variety of topics in the course work, but they also invest in
you future by providing many opportunities for networking with
leaders and executives in the field.
