Distinguished Speakers Visit Health Systems Class
On
January 17, Douglas P. Cropper, executive vice president of Inova
Health System, spoke to students in the class of Gary L. Filerman,
Ph.D.
Filerman, who is chair of the Department of Health
Systems Administration at the School of Nursing & Health Studies, regularly invites
prominent guest speakers to his "Seminar and Internship in Quality
of Care" course. At the class, Cropper discussed quality indicators,
patient safety, case management, and medical staffing.
After class, Cropper chatted with students such as NHS senior Timothy
Shannon (pictured here), a major in the health care management and
policy program.
Shannon--who serves as co-chair of the NHS academic
council, an accountant at Students of Georgetown, Inc. (The “Corp”),
and as chapter leader for Global Platinum Securities, LLC Investment
Club--will begin in July as a health care research analyst at J.P.
Morgan.
Other guest speakers this semester include Don Detmer, president
and CEO of the American Medical Informatics Association; Jerry Price,
COO of Sibley Memorial Hospital; Jason Ormsby, associate director
for federal relations at the Joint Commission on Accreditation of
Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO); and Katherine Browne, managing
director of the Consumer-Purchaser Disclosure Project.
