NHS Students Earn Third Place At CID Conference
On Monday, February 26, 2007, the Georgetown University Center for
Infectious Disease (CID) hosted its third annual conference on campus.
The event included three keynote presentations and three symposia
relating to research, clinical applications, and the policy, legal,
and ethical considerations pertaining to infectious diseases.
At the day-long conference, undergraduates from the School of Nursing & Health
Studies presented their poster detailing their research on antiretroviral
drug resistance in HIV/AIDS. Emily Marie Herzberg (NHS'08), Allison
Boyd (NHS'08), Mariah Marshall (NHS'07), Miguel de Leon (NHS'10),
Nicole Lamparello (NHS'08), and Allison Porter (NHS'08), all of the
Department of Human Science, won third place for their poster. The
undergraduates worked closely with NHS faculty members, including
Charles Evans, M.D., Ph.D., chair of the Department of Human Science,
and Michael Relf, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Nursing.
In addition, Irene Jillson, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department
of Nursing, addressed the topic of, “Epidemiology's Role in
Health Policies on Infectious Disease Control and Prevention.”
