Charles T. Folsom and Kenneth M. West—graduate students
in the Department of Health Systems Administration at NHS—recently
competed in the 12th Annual Everett V. Fox Student Case Competition.
The duo made it to the semi-finals.
The competition took place during a conference of the National
Association of Health Services Executives, held in Dallas from
Oct. 2-6. Bernard Horak, Ph.D., professor of health systems administration,
served as the Georgetown students’ faculty advisor.
Before the conference, each participating team was presented with
the same case study of a health care organization. Then, the teams
had three weeks to prepare a strategic, operational, and financial
analysis of the case.
The teams were also required to prepare an executive summary and
professional presentation of its analysis and recommendations.
A 20-minute presentation was given to a panel of health service
executives followed by a 10-minute question-and-answer session
in each round.
The competition was sponsored by the American College of Healthcare
Executives, the University of Alabama at Birmingham Healthy System,
Catholic Health Initiatives, Catholic Healthcare Partners, Deloitte
Consulting, General Electric Healthcare, the Hospital Corporation
of America, University of Maryland Medical System, and Trinity
Health System.
