NHS Student Abstract Selected for APHA Conference
Several undergraduates from the School of Nursing & Health
Studies were selected to present a poster on their HIV research
at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association
(APHA).
The NHS students will showcase their research on, "Antiretroviral
Drug Resistance Among Treatment-naïve HIV-1 Infected Individuals
in Washington, DC." The annual APHA meeting will take place
this year in Washington, D.C., from Nov. 3-7.
The students include Emily Marie Herzberg (NHS'08), Allison Boyd
(NHS'08), Mariah Marshall (NHS'07), Miguel de Leon (NHS'10), Nicole
Lamparello (NHS'08), and Allison Porter (NHS'08), all of the Department
of Human Science. The undergraduates are mentored by NHS faculty
members Charles Evans, M.D., Ph.D., chair of the Department of
Human Science, and Michael Relf, Ph.D., chair of the Department
of Nursing.
"Your abstract, selected from a large number of submittals,
was judged to be of high quality and interest," the APHA letter
of acceptance said.
The APHA annual meeting and exposition is the oldest and largest
gathering of public health professionals in the world, attracting
more than 13,000 national and international physicians, administrators,
nurses, educators, researchers, epidemiologists, and related health
specialists.
APHA's meeting program addresses current and emerging health science,
policy, and practice issues in an effort to prevent disease and
promote health.
In addition, several NHS faculty members, including NHS Dean Bette
Keltner, Ph.D., will present during the conference.
