Allison Boyd (NHS'08), who is a major in the Department of Human
Science at NHS, will be presenting her poster on HIV-1 at the
2007 Sigma Xi Annual Meeting and Student Research Conference,
held in Orlando, Fla., from Nov. 2-3.
Sigma Xi recently accepted Boyd's abstract, which focuses on, "Viral
Mutations Responsible for Drug Resistance Among Antiretroviral
Treatment-naïve HIV-1 Infected Individuals in Washington,
D.C." The organization, founded in 1886, was created to honor
excellence in scientific investigation and encourage a sense of
companionship and cooperation among researchers in all fields of
science and engineering.
This summer, Boyd was busy working on her research through the
Lisa Joy Raines Endowed Undergraduate Research Fellowship program.
As a fellow, Boyd received $5,000 of summer research funding.
In addition, Boyd is part of a research team at NHS that is studying
antiretroviral drug resistance in HIV/AIDS. She and other undergraduates
have been working closely with Michael Relf, chair of the Department
of Nursing, and Charles Evans, chair of the Department of Human
Science.
