Dear Colleagues:
I wish you a happy National Nurses Week, celebrated
from May 6 until May 12--the birthday of Florence Nightingale.
Nightingale
made the important observation, "Were there none
who were discontented with what they have, the world would never
reach anything better."
Her words capture the spirit of innovation
that animates our profession. We face the future of health care
in the classroom,
the clinic,
and the community.
In our professional careers, we work to improve
the health and well-being of the public: individuals, families,
and communities.
The tools
and technology of health care always change. Yet we consistently
embrace, in Georgetown's Catholic, Jesuit tradition, the commitment
of caring for the whole person--mind, body, and spirit.
As teachers,
we ensure that the next generation of nurses has received rigorous
training, as well as a grounding in compassionate
care.
Indicators such as our perfect NCLEX pass rate and our rankings
reveal our strength and our potential. As faculty, we share our
expertise
on critical health issues with the world’s citizens. I
remain grateful for all that you do.
I thank Professor Michael
Relf for his distinguished leadership of the Department of
Nursing, as well as our program directors
and faculty.
Do enjoy the celebration of achievement this coming week.
Sincerely,
Bette
