The Department of International Health builds upon Georgetown
University’s rich tradition of hands-on, experiential
learning. Throughout this exciting four-year program, students
learn from distinguished faculty experts and apply that knowledge
in a variety of real-life field experiences.
Three signature features of Georgetown’s program include:
• International Health Practical Experience Abroad
This practical experience abroad exposes students to global health issues
that other countries face. The students develop projects in collaboration
with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), universities, and health ministries.
This full-immersion program allows students to conduct research in countries
such as Uganda, Mexico, Australia, Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Mali.
• Community Organization Internship
This internship introduces students to international health issues at the local
level. The students will be exposed to practical experiences with non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) that serve multinational populations in Washington, D.C.
Students work with community organizations such as Bread
for the City, Boat People SOS, Asian
American LEAD, Whitman-Walker AIDS Clinic,
and Mary’s Center for Maternal & Child
Care.
• National/International Organization Internship
During this internship, students will work with national
or international organizations that deal with international
health
and global
health issues. Placements include the
World Bank, the Pan American
Health Organization, the Population
Reference Bureau, the
Solidarity Center of the AFL-CIO, and PEPFAR. More Information
