The Translational Health
Science Internship will integrate undergraduate students in an
established
and successful foreign research program in Buenos Aires, Argentina,
to study the pathobiology of pediatric respiratory infections.
Throughout the course, the notion that scientific research in
health studies is not an isolated laboratory activity, but
rather an integrated
component of the quest for clinical treatments will be emphasized.
We will develop the concept of translational research, the transition
of basic laboratory research to clinical practice, by focusing
classroom and laboratory work on viruses that cause respiratory
infections during the winter season, and combining this knowledge
with visits to pediatric hospitals in Buenos Aires. More information
on the Panamerican
Infant Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
