Submissions

The Georgetown University Journal of Health Sciences welcomes all scholarly Health Sciences papers.

To be considered for publication, submitted papers must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • The paper is an original work of the author(s).

  • All author(s) have been listed and agree to the paper submission.

  • All unoriginal ideas, text, and figures have been properly cited.

  • All citations follow the numerical APA format.

  • Papers must be submitted at blg25@georgetown.edu as an attachment.

  • Papers must be formatted as Word documents (.doc) or as Rich Text Files (.rtf).

  • Authors must include contact information (address and phone number).

Each original investigative, editorial, review, or other article the journal publishes has undergone scientific peer review.  Upon receipt and determination by the editorial staff that the topic of a submitted article is appropriate for the mission of the journal the article is sent to the review coordinator, a member of the faculty of the NHS, who handles the review process outside of the editorial board.

The article is reviewed for scientific accuracy by several individuals, of which one or more may be NHS students but also including NHS faculty and outside experts as the review coordinator deems appropriate.  The reviewers’ comments are then synthesized by the coordinator and sent without author attribution to the article’s corresponding author so the manuscript can be appropriately revised.

Upon return of a revised article to the journal the coordinator assesses whether or not the comments and questions of the reviewers have been adequately addressed in the revised manuscript. Based upon the assessment the review coordinator recommends to the Editorial Board either that the article be published or not in the journal.  The final decision to publish an article is made by the Editorial Board.

Once approved by the Editorial Board, each article is examined by GJHS Copy Editors and formatted for web presentation by Layout Editors. Edited versions are once again returned to authors for finalization.  After editing and approval, the time of actual publication is determined by the GJHS Editorial staff; GJHS reserves the right to save the submission for future publication. GJHS will contact the primary author regarding probably publication and/or any other information and concerns.
