Ways To Make A Gift To NHS

Philanthropic gifts are vital to furthering the mission of the School of Nursing & Health Studies (NHS): to improve the health and well-being of all people. Gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations help to sustain the school's role as a leader in educating exceptionally talented and dedicated students, who will become the next generation of caregivers, health administrators, and policymakers in a challenging and ever-changing health care delivery system. They also provide resources to develop innovative programs in response to the needs of the health care community and overall initiatives of NHS Dean, Bette Keltner Jacobs.

Most contributions come to us in the form of cash, usually by check. We also welcome gifts of securities, real estate and other appreciated property, as well as those through estate plans.

Cash -- Gifts of cash have an immediate impact on NHS's programs. They also provide direct income tax benefits for the donor in the form of a charitable deduction equal to the value of the gift.

Appreciated Securities -- A gift of appreciated securities is an excellent way to make a gift to NHS. Donating long-term appreciated assets to NHS allows you to avoid capital gains tax and to claim a charitable income tax deduction based on the full, fair-market value of your gift.

Real Estate & Assets -- Contributions of appreciated gifts of property, real estate and art objects may be used to make a charitable gift. Gifts of property held longer than 12 months can be deducted at their full, fair-market value and also may alleviate or eliminate capital gains tax liability.

Life Insurance Policy -- A donor may designate NHS as the beneficiary of either an existing life insurance policy or a new policy purchased for this purpose. By doing this, you may make an ultimate gift that is significantly larger than your out-of-pocket cost. All gifts benefit the School of Nursing & Health Studies at Georgetown University, and are tax-deductible to the full extent specified by the law.Our development staff will be pleased to assist you.
