Direct Entry to Advanced Practice Nursing Program

The Direct Entry to Advanced Practice Nursing Program allows individuals with a Bachelor's degree in another field, who wish to enter nursing and already have an advanced practice role in mind, to pursue both an Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in a nursing specialty.

  • The program consists of our 16-month Accelerated Second Degree BSN program followed by a graduate nursing specialty for a streamlined path to advanced practice nursing.

Direct Entry to Advanced Practice is available in the following graduate specialties.

Upon receipt of the BSN and completion of the NCLEX-RN examination, students may enter the graduate program for the Family Nurse Practitioner specialty. The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Acute and Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nursing Education specialties require one year of experience as an RN. During this year of full-time experience, students may opt to take core non-clinical courses part-time and then resume full-time graduate study after the year is complete.

Admissions Information

All Direct Entry applicants must simultaneously apply to the Accelerated Second Degree BSN program and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. BOTH applications are due by the Accelerated Second Degree BSN application deadline found on the admissions calendar.
