Accelerated Second Degree BSN Admissions Information

Please read all guidelines before submitting application.

Although each applicant is considered on an individual basis, the following criteria are required for admission to the Accelerated Second Degree BSN Program (Direct Entry applicants please see additional requirements for the Direct Entry Program).

Required Criteria

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Official transcripts from ALL colleges/universities attended required.
    • If you received your degree from a foreign institution, it must be evaluated by World Education Services (www.wes.org). Official transcripts plus an official WES evaluation must be included.
  • All candidates whose native language is not English are required to take TOEFL. Please see the FAQ page for minimum score details.
  • Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • 2 Recommendations; 1 academic and 1 professional
  • Resume/CV
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Interview is required (by invitation only).
  • Optional GRE test. Please see the FAQ page for optional GRE details
  • Plan for successful completion of the following prerequisite courses. You may apply to the program while you are still taking classes; conditional acceptances are offered. However, ALL prerequisite work above must be completed BEFORE enrolling in the program. Because this is an accelerated program, there is not space to take any of the below classes while in the program. All prerequisite grades must be at least a 'C' or better, with the exception of the science classes, which require a 'B-' or better.

    *In order to transfer credits for prerequisite science courses with lab, both the lecture course and the lab course must be successfully completed with a B- or better.

If you have taken a Nutrition, Lifespan Development, or Research Methods class, in some instances, these can allow other options regarding the English, Philosophy, Ethics, or Theology requirements. If this applies to you, please complete the online Prospective Student Inquiry Form, press submit, print a copy and fax it along with all college level transcripts to (202) 687-3703. Please allow 5-7 days for your evaluation to be processed. We will evaluate and determine if you have additional options.

Pass/Fail grades are not able to be transferred. High School Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) transfer credit is governed by AP Policies and IB policies respectively. If you are unsure whether a particular course you have taken or plan to take will fulfill a prerequisite above, please fax or email your transcripts to the number below for a transcript evaluation.

NOTE: If you are completing your prerequisite courses at Northern Virginia Community College, students should complete BIO 231, 232 (in classroom) or BIO 141, 142 (classroom or online options) for Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II and BIO 205 for Microbiology. Georgetown will accept the NAS 161 and 162 series to meet ONLY our Human Anatomy and Microbiology prerequisite requirements. The NAS course series will not fulfill the Human Physiology prerequisite. If you complete NAS 161, 162 you will need to take an additional Human Physiology course that covers the entire body's physiology.

Accelerated Second Degree BSN Admissions Calendar

Admission to the Accelerated Second Degree BSN program occurs in both the Spring and Fall semesters.

Spring Entry (classes begin in January)

August 1: Completed application due in the NHS Office of Admissions and Outreach
September: On campus interviews conducted (by invitation only)
October 15:
Spring Second Degree BSN decisions issued
November 1: Financial Aid forms due to the Office of Financial Services
November 1: Approximate reply date for accepted Spring applicants. Please read acceptance letter.

Fall Entry (classes begin at the end of August)

February 1: Completed application due in the NHS Office of Admissions and Outreach
March: On campus interviews conducted (by invitation only)
April 15: Fall Accelerated Second Degree BSN decisions issued
May 1: Financial Aid forms due to the Office of Financial Services
May 1: Approximate reply date for accepted Fall applicants. Please read acceptance letter.
