Human Science Internships/Independent Research
Hands-On Experience
With our faculty of renowned human science experts and Washington, D.C. as our
classroom, the possibilities for hands-on human science experience at NHS are
nearly endless. It all begins with our Discovery Center—NHS’ new,
state-of the-art teaching laboratory and research facility—where students
have the opportunity to further investigate the biological and chemical principles
learned in the classroom. Students also can conduct original health science research
alongside Georgetown faculty researchers in the Discovery Center or in other
laboratories on campus.
The human science internship or independent research
is a senior course in a health-related setting where students
gain professional experience in their
field of interest. This may be a period of archival,
laboratory or experiential research during which
the student explores in depth a topic or area of their
choosing. As undergraduates, NHS Human Science
students work alongside and learn from the world’s
leading health experts.
Human science seniors have held internships at MedStar Health’s
Washington Hospital Center or Georgetown University Medical Center,
the
National Institutes of Health, the National Academy
of Sciences, Congressional and other U.S
Government Offices and Agencies and many of the
200-plus health science, medical and healthcare
agencies and organizations in the Washington, D.C.
area.
