Application Requirements

To be eligible for this scholarship, interested applicants must be admitted to either the RN-BSN or graduate programs.. To apply for the scholarship, the applicant must interview with Marianne Lyons, Assistant Dean for Enrollment Management. The scholarship application form will be completed on-line, then printed for signature from the clinical manager of the unit worked.  In addition, an essay will be completed  (described below), and copies of transcripts will be pulled from your admitted application. Scholarship applications should be submitted for review one month prior to the intended semester of matriculation.

In order to be approved for the scholarship, the applicant must be admitted as a degree candidate through the Graduate School of Arts and Science majoring in one of the graduate programs housed in the School of Nursing & Health Studies.

This scholarship cannot be combined with any other Georgetown University School of Nursing & Health Sciences scholarship or benefit; this scholarship cannot be combined with any other Georgetown University Hospital tuition benefit.

Essay

During the degree program the student will be expected to develop, with the assistance of his/her faculty advisor and nurse coordinator a project relevant to the Georgetown University Hospital’s mission for presentation at the completion of the program. Along with the scholarship application the student should include a one-page essay describing his/her preliminary goals and/or research interests relevant to Georgetown University Hospital in one of the following areas:

  • Innovation in nursing practice
  • Access to care for underserved populations
  • Cultural competency in the delivery of health care
  • Health policy
  • Ethical issues
  • End of life issues in health care
  • Leadership and Service in health care, or
  • Innovations in responding to the nursing shortage (e.g.. recruitment, retention, policy)

Students may also propose another research and professional interest relevant to improvement of practice at Georgetown University Hospital to be reviewed by the Dean’s office.

Please note: In order to clarify our policies, the following amendments have been added to your scholarship agreement: "This scholarship is intended to be put toward a full-semester class and eventually the completion of a degree program. Students withdrawing from a course prematurely may be responsible for the entire cost of that course's tuition. Additionally students are expected to maintain full-time employment status (36 hours per week at Georgetown University Hospital) while receiving the scholarship. If a student fails to maintain their full-time employment status during a semester they may be held responsible for the entire cost of that semester's tuition." And, "This scholarship cannot be combined with any other Georgetown University School of Nursing & Health Sciences scholarship or benefit; this scholarship cannot be combined with any other Georgetown University Hospital tuition benefit."

Signing this form (on the confirmation page) signifies your acknowledgment of these policies.
